FACT: Appropriate Home. An aquarium with 15 gallons or more water, a small exterior power filter with a BIO-Wheel, a layer of gravel at most 1/4 thick, and an aquarium heater adjusted to between 75 and 80 degrees F.
Diet
Neon Tetras can be fed a few Black Worms every
other day. Just two or three worms for each fish. Usually they
swallow half of a worm and swim around with the other half of the
worm hanging our of the their mouths for a while.
Compatibility
Neon Tetras should be kept in a school with at
least 6 Neons and 10 is better. The same is true for Glow Light
Tetras and Black Phantom Tetras.
These are all schooling fish that live best in a
school with their own species.
Here is a list of fish that will do well with Neon Tetras:
Glow Light Tetras,
Black Phantom Tetra, and Harlequin Rasboras.
Here are some more good tank mates for Neon Tetras:
White Clouds,
Glass Fish,
Corydoras Catfish,
Fancy Guppies,
Honey Gouramis, and a few Ghost Shrimp.
Neon Tetras will usually not do well in the same aquarium with Large
Tetras such as Black Neon Tetras, Black Skirt Tetras, Serpae Tetras,
and other similar fish that are too aggressive for Neon Tetras.
You may have received advice that Neons will do well with most other
types of Tetras, but we do not believe that they will and for this
reason we recommend keeping them separate.
We have heard that some fish stores recommend keeping Tiger Barbs
with Neons, but this certainly will not work, and the Neons will
almost always be miserable.
Life Span
Neon Tetras have a life expectancy of several
years, sometimes up to 10 years if they are looked after well.
